Legal Requirements for Cayman Islands Marriage Ceremonies

  • Both the Bride and Groom must be in the country for 1 working day, prior to the ceremony.
  • The minimum age of legal marriage in the Cayman Islands is 16, however, anyone under 18 must have consent if he or she has not been married before.
  • Both parties must have valid passports or certified copies of birth certificates along with photo identification.
  • If either party is divorced, that party must have a decree absolute plus a notarized translation if the document is not in English.
  • If either party is widowed, that party must have a copy of the death certificate of the deceased spouse.
  • Both parties must have Cayman Islands international embarkation/disembarkation card or ship's boarding pass.
  • All marriages must be attended by a marriage officer and by two other witnesses.
  • Marriages must take place between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m.
  • An apostil fee might be required for some European countries
  • Weddings on Sundays have an additional fee

Hotel Wedding Policies
In order to book the wedding at the Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort, the hotel requires a percentage of the anticipated revenue, as the non-refundable initial deposit, to reserve the date.

Wedding may be cancelled 180 days prior with no penalty, other than the loss of non-refundable deposit. Afterwards, cancellation charges will be assessed based upon the following schedule:

  • 179 days to 90 days prior to the wedding = 80% of total anticipated revenue
  • 89 days or less prior to the wedding = 100% of total anticipated revenue
  • 44 days or less prior to the wedding = 100% of total anticipated revenue

Force Majeure Clause:
The performance of an event is subject to acts of God, government authority, disaster, weather inclemency, curtailment of transportation facilities, or other emergency beyond the party’s control, any of which make it inadvisable, illegal or impossible to provide the facilities and/or services for the meeting or which materially affects a party’s ability to perform its obligations under this contract. It is provided that the event cancelled or postponed for any one or more of such reasons by written notice from one party to the other without liability. All deposits shall be returned.
